Art, in this case, means optimising range, torque and other parameters through a web of conflict, such that the product remains suited to end-customer wishes as well as application necessities. Most importantly, projects have to be manned by the right engineering talent.
Electra EV has successfully pioneered the design, development and production of three new EV powertrains for fleet applications launched in the Indian market. As of FY20, there were more than two thousand passenger vehicles in India with an Electra EV powertrain inside; a stupendous achievement indeed for a nascent start-up less than five years in existence.
The company is actively involved in prototyping new offerings, working with global and Indian OEMs, fleet operators and orchestrators. While fundamentally there are two types of EV product development approaches – one that has the architecture fully made ground-up from scratch, and another where an EV variant is engineered for an existing ICE vehicle platform – both require the development team to surmount multi-disciplinary challenges. Electra EV engineers possess a comprehensive understanding of the vehicle’s energy requirements as well as unique business case requirements of the applications. Electra EV focuses on prototyping efforts to arrive at electrification solutions that can exceed the performance of its IC engine counterpart, whilst matching (if not exceeding) the useful life of the powertrain system.
